Tomorrow it’s the first anniversary of one of the last sisterships between European Public Libraries within the program: Public Library “Viktor Car Emin” Opatija (Croatia) and Galway City Libraries (Ireland) came to an agreement las 17th May 2017 and we cantacted them to see how the partnership was.
After librarians from Opatija visited Galway to know their partners and design the activities to develop in cooperation, the Croatian library sent Galway some books of Croatian authors translated into english.
They also celebrated St. Patrick’s day in their library with a treasure hunt trough their children dapartment “Halugica”, collecting shamrocks and golden coins as well as reading Irish stories.
They are still in contact and planning to taking the sistership one step beyond, designing more ambitious activities for the second half of the year.
Another thing to have in mind is that Galway will be European Capital of Culture along with Rijeka (another Croatian city, close to Opatija) for the year 2020. It’ll be a great opportunity to plan some activity throughout the year.
We’ll tell you all about this sistership in the blog!
