The Municipal Public Library in Chrzanow continues to enjoy an enriching experience with its sister library Municipal Library Tábor, exchanging ideas and materials that allow them to better understand their readers’ preferences and foster a unique connection. This exchange goes beyond words, and this time, they have focused on something that unites people of all ages and transcends borders: board games.
In May 2024, they began exploring the rules for sharing their games, promoting inclusive and diverse access. Yet, the exchange went far beyond just technicalities: both libraries wanted to know, what are we playing?
Favourite Games: A Comparison Between Poland and the Czech Republic
From January to August this year, the most-borrowed games in Municipal Public Library in Chrzanow have highlighted the favourites of our users. From reinvented classics like “Sleeping Beauty: Deluxe Edition” to mentally stimulating games like “Parking Puzzle” and “Lock”, our visitors show that wit, creativity, and storytelling are the key ingredients for a great game. Tabor’s readers, on the other hand, favour titles such as “Kouzelné čtení – Albi knihy” and the classic “Dobble”, while educational games like the Read with Albik sets provide an interactive experience that promotes vocabulary learning for all ages.
What do they have in common? Although the names may differ, both countries (Poland and Czechia) share a passion for games that foster collaboration and learning. Examples like “Azul”, “Sagrada”, and “The Settlers of Catan” show how our tastes converge, allowing readers from both countries to find a common language in these shared titles.
Cooperation between libraries is more than an institutional activity; it is an open window to new ways of learning and connecting. This experience between Tábor and Chrzanow libraries demonstrates how board games, like books, are powerful vehicles for cultural exchange and shared learning. Beyond the enjoyment, these games invite dialogue, understanding, and the building of networks that transcend language and geography.
We hope this connection between libraries continues to inspire others to strengthen their ties, sharing materials, activities, and the invaluable spirit of cooperation.
