The Salvador Estrem i Fa Municipal Library continues to demonstrate the power of community engagement through culture, education, and tradition. By hosting events that bring together people of all ages and backgrounds, the library not only strengthens local ties but also sets an example for other libraries across Europe. These activities showcase how libraries can serve as cultural hubs, offering opportunities for learning, preserving traditions, and fostering inclusion.

The following three recent events are excellent examples of the dynamic role libraries can play in their communities, and we hope they may serve as inspiration for the libraries participating in the Sister Libraries network (and beyond):

Paper Flower Workshop: Led by the remarkable 90-year-old Mrs. Pepita Bargalló, this workshop passes on the local tradition of creating paper flowers for La Encamisada, a historic festival in Falset. Each year, Mrs. Bargalló teaches participants how to make the colourful flowers used to decorate the festival carriages, keeping this important cultural practice alive. This event is a beautiful example of intergenerational learning, where heritage is preserved and celebrated.

Enigma Workshop: Designed for Year 6 students from Antoni Vilanova School, this workshop encourages critical thinking and teamwork through the solving of puzzles and enigmas. Engaging young minds in this way not only enhances their problem-solving skills but also fosters creativity and collaboration. It demonstrates how libraries can play a key role in supporting education through interactive and thought-provoking activities.

Library Services Visit: A group of Catalan language students from the Consell Comarcal del Priorat, all immigrants settling in Falset, visited the library to discover the services it offers. This visit was particularly significant as it supports the integration of newcomers, helping them to improve their language skills while becoming familiar with community resources. It is a powerful reminder of how libraries can contribute to social inclusion by offering services tailored to diverse audiences.

Through these initiatives, the Falset library not only serves its local community but also inspires other libraries to embrace their role as centres for learning, cultural preservation, and social cohesion. These events reflect the values of the Sister Libraries programme, encouraging collaboration and knowledge-sharing among libraries throughout Europe.
