For the last 5 years Castropol Public Library has been cooperating with the department of Italian at the Oficial Languages School in Ribadeo, a nearby city. The teacher Paloma Galán and her Reading Club develop a joint activity that grows every year both in number of participants and literary quality.
The Italian- Spanish Reading Clubs Meeting aims to put in touch persons that share the pleasure of reading, that want to share this passion and grow from the literary point of view.
The books chosen are from Italian authors that the pupils at the italian department read in Intalian and the participants in the reading club from the library read in Spanish. Then, they put in common their experiences to discuss different opinions. The gastronomy from the places in which the action is set also plays an important role.
In this 5th aniversary of the activity the author chosen was Maurizio de Giovanni and his book, “The bastards from Pizzofalcone”. He’s a much appreciated author in Italy but still little known. He presented his book in the Black Week of Gijón, a festival devoted to noir literature.
We wanted this fifth anniversary to be something special and we had the opportunity to meet Angel de la Calle, content director and cartoon artist. He’s also a connoiseur of the work of De Giovanni and personal friend of the writer. As could not be otherwise being Napoles the scenario of the plot, pizza (declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO last year) had a relevant role, as well as Lambrusco wine and Moretti beer.
The Confraternita dei Lettori, or Reading Club from Bolonia city (Italy) was also present and invited us to participate in the Reading Club at an European level they are part of.
We’re already working on the coming editions of this very succesful activity.
