Last month, Arucas Municipal Library (Spain) and Korčula City Library “Ivan Vidali” (Croatia) held their third Skype meeting between the children from Arucas and Korčula. Our libraries have been Sister Libraries from March 2014 and have so far had excellent collaboration on the creation of library activities for children.

The theme of this Skype meeting, held on February 24th, were the rich carnival traditions in our hometowns. The children had previously exchanged their letters of friendship in English and had two Skype meetings. This time, the children dressed up in various costumes and asked each other questions about the different customs and traditions in our hometowns during the carnival. We learned about the local music and food traditional to this time of the year in our towns and shared experiences and favourite memories of the carnival.

We exchanged short texts about the local carnival traditions as well as old and recent photographs depiticing the carnival celebrations. Exhibitions were then organized to present these traditions to our local communities.   You can check out the exhibition of the carnival traditions in Arucas on Korčula City Library’s website: http://www.gk-korcula.hr/izlozba-o-karnevalu-u-arucasu/
