Public Library “Viktor Car Emin“ Opatija (Croatia) has recently established a partnership with Public Library from Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Both of the cities share their patron (St. James), so this library has decided to designed an ambitious program around the pilgrimage road.

As part of the celebration of the City Day of Opatija, last 24th July, Public Library “Victor Car Emin” organizes an event called Liburnia Literary Camino. “This event is inspired by the famous Camino de Santiago and combines hiking in the beautiful Liburnia region and presentation of the authors whose literary works are inspired by th beauty of this region, Camino de Santiago itself or other profound things and thoughts that they experienced through hiking and enjoying staying in nature.

The library asked the Opatija Mountaineering Society to be a professional leader in the pedestrian part of the Liburnia “Camino” as wel as Maja Klarić, Luka Skorić and Davorka Milat (authors, travel agents, hikers) are responsible for the literary part of Camino”.

For this event, they’ve sought the cooperation with the Embassy of Spain and Brotherhood of St. James in Croatia. Members of this  brotherhood are now in Spain, walking the  ‘’Camino de Santiago”. They’ll also visit the Public library to give the greetings from their Sister Library in Croatia.
