Today we welcome Wicklow County Council Library Service from Ireland, to NAPLE Sister Libraries! It is the sixth Irish library to participate in the programme!

The Wicklow County Council Library Service operates 13 public libraries across the county and also provides a mobile library service that visits more than 30 rural locations.

Libraries allow members to borrow different materials, such as books, novels, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, console games, magazines, newspapers, and language learning resources. Members can usually borrow up to about 12 items at a time, depending on their membership type. Libraries provide study spaces, public computers, free Wi-Fi, printing, and scanning, so they are often used by students and remote workers. They also act as community hubs, hosting activities such as children’s story time, book clubs, craft workshops, author talks, and cultural events.

Some libraries offer My Open Library, which allows registered users to access the building from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm even outside staff hours.

The libraries also run three national programmes:

  • Right to Read – promotes reading and literacy for children, families, and adults.
  • Skills for Life – provides free workshops to help adults develop practical skills
  • Healthy Ireland at Your Library – offers reliable information and activities about health and wellbeing.

If you want to know more about them, and what they are looking for just go to the Libraries Section and click on its name. You’ll find it in Ireland. You’ll also find there a detailed description of their activities and the specific project they want to develop in the Sister Libraries Program.

With this new incorporation, the programme reaches:

153 European public libraries participating!
