We would like to present an initiative that has brought together three libraries from the Naple Sister Libraries programme: Chrzanów Public Library (Poland), Ivan Tavčar Public Library Škofja Loka (Slovenia), and the Municipal Library Tábor (Czech Republic). Together, we explore the richness of traditional folklore and old tales, sharing stories that reflect the cultural heritage and imagination of our communities.
Return to Our Grandmothers’ Stories
We are pleased that young students are willing to participate in international library projects. A Czech student, Jana P., a graduate of the library science program at the Secondary School of Trade, Services, and Crafts in Tábor, has prepared a small online exhibition presenting five folklore creatures. The project was created with the artistic assistance of children from the 4th grade of Husova Elementary School in Tábor.
On 21 January 2026, the children visited the Municipal Library Tábor together with their teacher, Martina Š., for a meeting entitled “Return to Our Grandmothers’ Stories.” During the program, they learned about traditional folklore characters, listened to stories connected with them, and created their own artistic interpretations of these figures for presentation to international library audiences.

Why did the student choose this topic?
“We live in a digital era in which traditional customs are followed less and less. For this reason, I wanted to bring the younger generation back to these traditions, at least for a day, and allow them to present their own interpretations of selected Czech and Slavic folklore characters. Stories may have different versions for adults and for children, and each person may imagine them in their own way, but their core message remains the same.” – said the student.
The exhibition is available in English, and partner libraries are welcome to present it to their readers on their websites. Libraries in Poland and Slovenia are already hosting the exhibition, and we sincerely thank them for their cooperation and their willingness to support and present the project of a library science student.
