Summer, holiday atmosphere, music and historical space in the centre of Pardubice. This is the short version of the multi-genre festival called Summer at Příhrádek, which has been organised by the Regional Library in Pardubice for the sixth year. For six years now, the Pardubice Library has had a detached workplace in the historical buildings of the so-called Příhrádek. This small triangular square was created at the beginning of the 16th century, when it became part of the extended fortifications of the Pardubice Castle. The small courtyard is dominated by an Empire fountain from the early 19th century and two mature lime trees. Příhrádek was once a blacksmith’s workshop, a meat shop, stables for horses and even a prison.
Since 2020, the three renovated buildings at Příhrádek have been at the disposal of the Regional Library. In the same year, the first edition of the Summer at Příhrádek festival took place, which has since become a traditional summer cultural event in the city of Pardubice. During the festival, artistic performances are held twice a week throughout the summer, mostly music concerts, but also theatre and poetry performances.
Summer at Příhrádek has become a cult event in its six years of existence. Every year the library sets up a programme to suit everyone. There are concerts of popular and classical music, amateur and professional theatre. In recent years, the Příhrádek has been the venue for punk, rock, blues, French chanson, reggae, jazz and country music, among others. Not only regional artists perform here, but artists from all over the country. The gates of the festival are also open to foreign performers, for example this July the American musician Steve Arvey gave a concert here.
