Carlos’ coronation was a unique opportunity that the Knowle Library wanted to celebrate with its users and share with us.

Our new King Charles the third was crowned alongside the Queen Consort on the 6th May 2023 at Westminster Abbey. There were many celebrations taking place in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth over the whole weekend. The Coronation ceremony itself is a solemn and religious service that has remained largely unchanged for over a 1000 years.

Here at Knowle Library we celebrated with crown making and commemorative plate craft activities for the children as well as a host of colouring and activity sheets linked to the Royal celebrations.

Our library was festooned with bunting and displays. The Knowle Community celebrated with a street party along the High Street with Artisan market stalls, live music, entertainment, and food huts. Despite the rainy weather everyone joined in the festivities and had a wonderful time.

Across the country church bells were rung to celebrate the new Kings accession to the throne.
