This year, the anticipation of the Easter holiday in the libraries of the Panevėžys Elena Mezginaitė Public Library network was full of creativity, colors, traditions, and togetherness. Various educational activities, creative workshops, readings, and games were held here, inviting adults, children, and families to the library.
On April 10, adult visitors and members of the Public institution “Vilties Sodas”(Garden of Hope) had the opportunity to participate in the education “Egg painting with wax in Lithuanian patterns.” This activity was led by artist and preschool teacher Diana Masiulienė. The activity allowed me to get in touch with old Lithuanian traditions and learn how to print eggs using the wax technique. All participants took away beautifully printed eggs a good mood and new knowledge.
On April 12, families were invited to creative workshops with folk artist Dainora Guokiene in the Children’s Literature Department “Žalioji pelėda”. Participants, using various materials and decorative tools, made colorful Easter wreaths and cards. Easter readings and games were also held here throughout the week, in which the young library visitors who participated had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a creative atmosphere. A library employee introduced the children to Easter traditions and the meanings of the colors of the eggs. Everyone read excerpts from V. V. Landsbergis’s book “Egg Tales”, Kamishibai story about Rabbit, chicken and Easter fun, played the game “Hot Chicken” and made holiday cards and table decorations.
Activities that encouraged children’s creativity and allowed them to get acquainted with Easter traditions through creative tasks were also held in other libraries. In the Smėlynė library, kindergarteners participated in sensory education, during which they listened to the story “Easter Miracle”. The readings took place differently than usual – the fairy tale came to life not only through words but also through the senses: hearing, sight, touch. After the readings, the children decorated Easter eggs and were rewarded with treats. The young visitors were invited to the education “Easter egg decorating” at the “Židinys” library. The Easter decoration creation workshop “Beautiful Easter” was also organized at the “Žiburėlis” library.
We invite you not only to remember the impressions you experienced but also to visit the Easter creative works exhibited at the “Žiburėlis” library. Visitors are delighted by the two exhibitions. One of them is “Rolling Easter Egg”, which reveals the creativity and craftsmanship of the students of the United Adult Applied Art Studio and the children art studio. You will find here not only brightly colored, patterned eggs but also delicately decorated, nature-inspired works that are filled with the spirit of spring. Each work is a small artistic miracle, combining tradition and modernity, a play of colors and natural materials. We hope that these events not only created a pre-holiday mood for the participants but also inspired new traditions in the future.
