Description: Klaipeda City Municipality Imanuelis Kantas Public Library was founded in 1920. Library have changed a lot over years, but it‘s mission remained the same – to establish modern libraries close to the homes of Klaipeda residents and to provide equal opportunities for all users to conveniently use all kinds of universal information resources to meet cultural, recreational, self-education and lifelong learning needs. The library is open to all Lithuanian and foreign citizens. Currently library consists of six divisions and 11 branches spread throughout the city, employs 74 librarians. Wide variety of cultural and educational events, as well as, reading incentive programs are organized for various user age groups in order to activate the usage of information resources. More and more online services are created and improved. Library’s website, Facebook and Instagram accounts are constantly updated with newest information on educational events, activities for children, adults and seniors, library services for people with special needs, reading promotion, promotion of local culture, new online services etc. In addition, by implementing cultural, educational and innovative projects, library becomes more and more noticeable amongst children and youth and is recognized not only as a place to read or search for information, but also a place to spend free time, relax, learn, gain certain skills and knowledge, meet friends. Also library focuses on the education of users and the improvement of their digital literacy skill by teaching the elderly computer literacy and the youth high quality information gathering.
