BMB works as a public service culture, education and research. Metropolitan Library of Bucharest is part of the public library network that consists of county municipal, town and village libraries, subordinate to local authorities. From a simple library our institution was transformed into an active factor of Romanian cultural life, becoming a true temple of the arts and culture through its rich and varied cultural programs we developed with our professional staff and in partnership with various institutions and cultural figures of the country. Our role as a cultural center with a frantic life is easily perceived throughout numerous book launches, exhibitions, concerts, symposiums, that are held here regularly and promoted through media making our library a flagship entity for an European capital. The Metropolitan Library of Bucharest has 35 branches that cover all sectors of the city. We have collections with information from all domains of interests, books, newspapers that available to loan or to consultation on the spot, in our reading rooms. Access to all services is free. Metropolitan Library of Bucharest, the largest public library in Romania, is aiming at annual running of about 800 programs and projects with socio-cultural impact on an increasingly large Bucharest community. The Bucharest public library ensure free access to public information services, research, documentation, reading through his 21 branches, 7 branches for children, 5 specialized branches and Sadoveanu Headquarters. The Metropolitan Library is the administrator of DACOROMANICA, the largest and most important digital library of Romania. Launched this very year as a result of the most ambitious digitization project at national level in Romania, DACOROMANICA is providing her users with over 3 millions scanned pages and is continuously updated in order to become a real instrument for national and international cooperation and has the aim of becoming a partner for The European Virtual Library EUROPEANA.
