Description: The Municipal Library Network of Gijón/Xixón is the entity that organises and manages the public library service in the city of Gijón, in Spain. This network is made up of 11 information units: 5 libraries in integrated centres and 6 neighbourhood libraries. It also has a special library, the Patient Library at the Cabueñes Hospital, with which it has a collaboration agreement. The mission of the Gijón/Xixón Municipal Library Network is to manage public reading services in this municipality, as well as to organise and develop programmes and activities to encourage reading, user training and information literacy. It is also responsible for the organisation of the Café Gijón Novel Prize, the María Elvira Muñiz Prize for the promotion of reading, the Gijón Leyendo Photography Competition, POEX Poetry in Xixón, and participates in the organisation of the Xixón Book Fair (FeLiX).
