We share with you the cultural agenda for the month of May from the Santa María da Feira Municipal Library (Portugal). Among all the activities, we think the week dedicated to Ukrainian culture is especially worth mentioning.
Santa Maria da Feira Municipal Library (Portugal), in partnership with Rotary International, is promoting the themed week “Sounds, Colors, and Flavors of Ukraine”, a journey of cultural celebration and solidarity with the Ukrainian people. This initiative is part of the Library’s commitment to valuing minorities, combating misinformation, and promoting cultural diversity.
Rotary International, known for its active role in supporting humanitarian causes and promoting peace, joins this project to reinforce the importance of global solidarity and support for communities affected by conflict.
Throughout the week, the public will be invited to discover the richness of Ukrainian culture through music, art, gastronomy, literature, and informative discussion sessions, creating a space for gathering and reflection where tradition and current events meet, inspiring empathy, knowledge, and critical awareness.
“Sounds, Colors, and Flavors of Ukraine” is a bridge between peoples and histories, promoting sharing, understanding, and the building of a more informed and compassionate citizenship.
The library will play an important role in organizing the session “Não se deixe enganar” on May 30th with Tatiana Sanches from the CLAD project (Citizens and Libraries against Disinformation). As they state: “The fight against misinformation is currently one of the important missions of public libraries. In societies marked by structural inequalities and perceptions of threat to identity or security, minority groups become easy targets for distorted narratives that blame them for social and economic problems. Social media and digital communication channels play a central role in the rapid spread of false or manipulated content. In this sense, the library promotes this session to mitigate misinformation and the discrimination that results from it.”
