At the “Žalioji pelėda” (Green Owl) Children’s Literature Department of the Panevėžys Elena Mezginaitė Public Library, the autumn holiday camp immersed children in a week of discovery and fun.

Day One was dedicated to Harry Potter. The library turned into a magical world — the Sorting Hat divided the participants into four Hogwarts houses. The children designed their own emblems, invented fantastic creatures with special powers, and played an exciting Kahoot quiz about Harry Potter. Later, they went on a treasure hunt around the library, writing invisible clues and searching for hidden treasures. The day ended with a creative workshop where everyone made and decorated their own magic wands.

Day Two was full of adventure and learning — the campers visited the local police department. Officers conducted a lesson on traffic safety, presented reflective badges as gifts, and introduced the children to police gear and equipment. The kids tried on riot gear, handled shields, learned about tasers and radios, and explored a patrol car. It was a fun and educational day filled with new knowledge and experiences.

Day Three took place at the Panevėžys branch of the Lithuanian Audiosensory Library. The children learned about the history of Braille, how it was adapted for use in Lithuanian, and how books are printed in Braille today. During the creative workshop, they even wrote short texts using Braille writing tools.

Day Four was spent at the “ČIZ” Puppet Theatre in Bajorai (Rokiškis district). During an educational session, the children discovered how puppet shows are created and how much imagination and craftsmanship it takes to bring puppets to life. They toured the theatre, tried controlling the puppets themselves, and watched a cheerful performance, “The Dog Who Couldn’t Bark”. Inspired by what they saw, they later crafted their own small yarn puppets — each unique and imaginative. Everyone returned to the library full of inspiration and good spirits.

Day Five, the final day, was lively and creative. The “Boružėlė” Puppet Theatre from Radviliškis District Municipality Public Library performed two mini-plays: “Mice in the Library” and “The Torn Book”, encouraging a love of books and reading. Afterwards, the group discussed reading habits and made small handmade booklets with drawings and stories. The camp ended with pizza, laughter, and happy memories.

The autumn camp at the library was a week of creativity, learning, friendship, and fun — a magical experience the children will remember fondly.

Miniature performances “Mice in the Library” and “The Torn Book”, creative workshops, and the educational program “You can talk to a doll” and an excursion to the Bajorai Puppet Theater “ČIZ” are part of the project “Theatre begins with… a library”.
The project is partially funded by the Panevėžys City Municipality’s children and youth artistic activity project program.
